Fatherhood Friday: Adventure To The 800 Year Old Rimu Tree

The other day, Emily had a teachers only day at school so we decided to go and have an adventure finding the 800 year old Rimu tree at Otari.

I took the backpack for Sam but she ended up walking most of the way holding Emily’s hand which was very cute.

I have to say that the XA3 did a great job of the tricky light conditions.

Tall People

This is from a couple of weeks back when the South African rugby team received a Powhiri (po-for-re)  or traditional Maori welcome to the city.

Rugby Ticket Information People

Bumped into these guys on the same day as I locked the keys in my car. They were giving away fliers about the Rugby World Cup and small bags of Jellybeans.

Hamish distracted them and I took their photo. This diversionary tactic seemed to work quite well and I used it again later in the day 🙂

Not sure what was going on in the second image though.

Whats Wrong With This Image?

Another shot from the Petone Fair. This time of another photographer.

So what is wrong with this picture? Anyone who knows me know I hate cheap tripods (See previous rant here) and this guy sporting two camera bodies and seems to have forgotten to spend some money on his :).  Its probably lucky that it was an absolutely still clear night for those firework shots latter on 🙂

I’m not judging… Just saying

Book Reading On Cuba Street

Before the Rugby World Cup Wellington was a much more peaceful place where people knew how to interact with each other in interesting ways that made for good photography. Now with lots more people around you would think this would happen even more, but no… Lots more people and not a shot to be found, well maybe a few :).

Parliamentary Rugby World Cup

The world has pretty much gone rugby mad around here with the Rugby World Cup on at the moment.

This shot is from the Parliamentary Rugby World Cup from a couple of weeks ago, lining up are the United Kingdom and Argentina for their national anthems . This is an actual thing and all the players have to work for their countries parliament.  The light was super bright and contrasty and most of the stuff I shot on 35mm I didn’t really like ( I will post the ones I did like when I get a chance).

Devil On Stilts

Yet another shot from the Petone Fair… This time a Devil on stilts.

More Shooting In The Dark

Another shot from the Petone Fair in the weekend. This one wasn’t quite as successful with the plane of focus falling just a little short… I still quite like it though… Makes him a bit more mysterious 🙂

Shooting In Dark

We went to the Petone fair in the weekend. We got there just as it was getting dark so after I finished the roll of 400 ISO film I pushed one to 1600. If you have ever shot a Rolleiflex in low light you will know how near impossible it is to focus so mostly this was using the distance scale which at times it was even too dark to see.

This was the best one of the night 🙂

Sleepers Are Back

With the weather warming up sleepers seem to be coming back out of the woodwork.

Police On The Waterfront

With the Rugby World Cup on here at the moment there is certainly more of a Police presence around town. The city really has a bit of a strange vibe at the moment, people aren’t gathering and interacting as they usually do.

Maybe its just the full moon 🙂
