Locks Of Love

This is something I have walked past countless times over the years but this is the first time I have noticed that all the padlocks have things written on them πŸ™‚

Performance Arcade Set-up Images And Time-Lapse

This was a while ago now but with moving house and quite a few technical issues with the time-lapse processing have meant that it was only completed today something like four weeks after it happened. The Performance Arcade is part of the Wellington Fringe Festival and involves art installations in and around a whole bunch on large shipping containers.

I had been contacted by Jo, one of the organisers due to an older post( HERE ) I put up and asked if I wanted to come and take some shots around this years event. I had been interested in trying out some more time-lapse photography over a longer period of time so asked when the containers were due to be dropped off.

It turned out that it was scheduled to happen on a Monday and the window of delivery was 7am until 7pm so this worked out perfectly for a long time-lapse.

The day turned out to be really windy and cloudy and due to safety I spend most of the day standing up road cones that had blown over and then as the wind got stronger in the afternoon standing beside my camera to make sure it wouldn’t blow over as well.

I did manage to get a few shot with Rollei as well though when the wind wasn’t too gusty.

The really sucky thing was that I was moving house from Wednesday and didn’t get to go back as planned and shoot a whole heap more time-lapses of people setting up individual containers or members of the public interacting with the installations .

I guess there is always next year… The video is at the bottom of the page

Enjoy

Did I mention it was not only windy but cold too…

It was warmer and more sheltered inside the containers…

AndΒ  mean anywhere…

Arcade-8

About an hour after I started shooting it started to lightly rain and the only plastic bag I could find was from someone’s lunch. On the first attempt to put it over the camera a gust of wind blew it away which resulted in a chase followed by me falling over just missing it and then three people chasing it round the containers πŸ™‚ fun times. I got away with only minor injuries…

Photgraphy For Good Not Evil

Recently I submitted a framed photo for the Phil Jacobs Benefit . Phil is one of the few camera repair people left in Wellington and sadly he has become seriously sick which has put a major financial strain on his family.

I have had my Rolleiflex fixed by Phil on numerous occasions and he has always gone out of his way to help me out.

They had a live auction last Friday for some of the prints and the rest have gone on TradeMe (NZ equivalent of Ebay).

Anyway if you want to buy a nice framed, darkroom printed shot of one of the founding fathers of Wellington’s statue overseeing repairs done to a street light then now is your chance, unfortunately I think bidding is restricted to NZ only… Anyway the auction is Here go have a look πŸ™‚

I have a series of these two guys jumping into the water from here but half is still in the camera…

I cant remember but I think this was during the 48 hour film festival where teams have to write, film and edit a film in 48 hours.

Sea Shepherd Flag

The Sea Shepherd flag on the back of the Bob Barker vessel as it resupplies in Wellington before heading south to link up with the Steve Irwin to protest against whaling in the southern ocean.

I have to say that I was pretty impressed by this ship, unfortunatley it was too big to get a shot on the Rollei but I took one on my XA3 (still to be processed). It looked a lot like some of the NZ navy vessels that were in port earlier in the year.

Solace In The Wind Meets Titanic

Over the weekend in Wellington there was a massive music festival that had areas set up all round the waterfront… This led to there being a fair amount of drunk people on the waterfront moving from zone to zone… Lets just say that lots of this sort of thing happened…

Trials Styles

Yesterday I went to the Bowlarama skate competition (big post coming tomorrow if I get all the images processed) and about half way through I remembered that I had parked my car on a 2 hour park and that was something like 3 hours ago. Luckily no ticket when I got back to it and snapped this guy doing trials stuff on his bike on the way back…

I ended up shooting all the film I had with me at the comp long before it ended πŸ™‚

Busking With Style

Saw this a couple of weeks ago on the waterfront… I usually don’t take pictures of buskers but this one was too cool to miss. Not only was he playing some smokin piano, he was playing on the back of a super cool pickup and if that wasn’t enough he also had an old school mechanical drum machine that was playing along. Unfortunately just as I got there it started to rain and he packed up 😦

Sleeper On Cuba

With the weather being occasionally nice the sleepers come out of the woodwork… Its amazing what they can sleep through since there was a busker not more than 50 metres away getting the crowd to clap along and generally being noisy.

Information Kiosks

I was wondering what they were going to do with these information stands that are left over from the Rugby World Cup… Apparently they will be used for tables for bottles πŸ™‚

I always like the forward planning of sleepers who take off their shoes and store them under the seat.
