Japanese Festival Drumming

A couple of weeks ago I came across this Japanese festival in Civic Square while randomly walking round. The drummers were just setting up so I stuck around to shoot a few pictures…

No Climbing

I guess this spot has been officially shut down 😦

To see this being climbed on look here πŸ™‚ https://darkhalide.wordpress.com/2012/07/06/civic-square-parkour/

Civic Square Parkour

I put up a shot of this sculpture about a week ago (See it HERE) and how I thought it would become my nemesis due to the fact that I had already missed some shots around it and could see no way of hanging around it without looking suspicious. As it turned out I didn’t need to worry :).

Nemesis

This thing has turned up in Civic Square. I have a feeling that it is going to be my new nemesis. So far I have missed about 4 shots walking past as legs are sticking out etc as I have been walking towards it that disappear as I get into shooting range. There is also no real way of hanging about without looking suspicious… Will have to wait and see…

Sleeper And Sculpture

I’ve seen this guy sleep here before… Not sure what the appeal of sleeping on stone under the watchful eye of a stone pig is…

Chalking?

Believe it or not this wall was full of writing. Guess it was the same tonal range as the wall…

Fuzzy Sleeper

This sleeper came prepared… Great furry sleeping bag!

30 Years Nuclear Free

A couple of weekends ago it was the 30th anniversary of New Zealand being nuclear free… I’m hoping that these were some of the originalΒ  activists from 30 years ago

Peace Walking

I couldn’t think of a better post to put up on ANZAC ( Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) day where we remember all the people who fought in the various wars…

Least we forget.

Peace.

Occupy Wellington Before And After Eviction

Occupy Wellington Got evicted the other day. It was pretty much going to happen as the city tried to tidy its image for the Rugby 7’s. I missed the actual eviction which was apparently a bit heated but have put together some before and after shots… They aren’t exact since I was doing it completely from memory from a few months ago but you get the idea.

In the 5th shot you can see a guy on a bike talking to the security guard… The same guy is one of the original protestors in the shot below :)… There was no animosity and they were just having a chat.

I like how chilled out Wellington is sometimes πŸ™‚

Occupy Wellington Again

I walked past the Occupy Wellington camp last weekend while on my normal photo wanderings. They are back on the verge of being evicted again with the council trying to clean up the city for the up coming rugby 7’s at the start of February.

The protest has changed a bit from when it started as most of the original activists having left only to be replaced with predominantly homeless people. There has even been accusations of verbal abuse to female passerbys late at night.

It seems that this protest has lost its way a little… But at least it still makes for interesting images πŸ™‚

Just after I took these a massive gust of wind nearly blew them away…Literally.

Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

OK so they weren’t actually sleeping πŸ™‚

Civic Square

Running a bit behind with developing at the moment so here is another older shot of a couple of kids sharing headphones (I think) in Civic Square.

Sleeper And Sunblock

I have to say that this is the most prepared sleeper that I have found so far. He was pretty much covered in sunblock which almost made him look like a sun loving zombie πŸ™‚

Smokin

For the last few weeks in Civic Square the has been an African festival happening. Mostly is seems to revolve around food πŸ™‚

Sitting In Civic Square

School holidays are upon me again… It’s a time where my wanderings are a bit curtailed having to look after two small people not just one… So its back to the archives for a week or so until I can get out shooting again…

Here’s one from summer in Civic Square.

Slut Walk Wellington 2011

On Saturday I endeavored to go and photograph the Wellington Slut Walk. It started at 2 at Waitangi Park… simple enough… Unfortunately as one part of my brain said Waitangi Park the rest of my brain said Frank Kits Park. So I was wandering round going “where is everyone?” and met up with a friend who said he was going to Waitangi Park to photograph the Slut Walk (at this point I’m still hearing Frank Kits Park). So we wander past Frank Kits park and through Civic Square and head along Cuba Street and onto Courtenay Place towards Waitangi park… Halfway there I decide to head back to Frank Kits Park cause that’s where my brain tells me to go… Greg must have thought I was being weird πŸ™‚

Anyway I got back to Frank Kits and of course no-one was there so I wandered round town aimlessly and just as I was heading back to the car I noticed a gathering of people on the steps above Civic Square… I had missed the walk but got to hear the speeches etc… Not the best place to take images, the walk would have been better but you take what you can get.

I’m currently looking for a new brain where the left and right sides don’t get confused while communicating with each other so if you know where to find one going cheap let me know πŸ™‚

You can get more information on the Slut Walk HERE

Drawing

After yesterdays fantastic weather it seems to be back to raining again today so hopefully I will get some time to develop yesterdays films. On the down side it seems I probably over did it yesterday which I discovered when I tried to get up this morning (at 645 Care of Sam) and found that my ribs were almost back to square one 😦 although I did find that extreme pain is a great way to be fully awake very quickly.

Anyway here isΒ  a shot of someone drawing in Civic Square sometime in March…

Good Days Shooting… And Some Old Stuff

Things finally came together today with a nice day on a Saturday and my body being happy enough to let me carry a camera and bag without causing too much pain and not affecting breathing…

I finished off the roll of film that had been in Rollei for the last three weeks and managed to fill another one as well, which is pretty unprecedented for me. After a slow start to the day I even managed to get a sleeper which all going well should be a good one in a new spot πŸ™‚

Hopefully things should be back to normal in the next couple of weeks.

I still have to develop the film so unfortunately we are still on older shots that I have found on my computer which I have missed or thought “Ill put that up later”…

This was a World Festival held in Civic Square about the middle of March
