Playing With Blending Layers and Textures
Cruising through some blogs the other day I came across one (Shadowhouse Creations)which had a whole heap of textures and blending tutorials, Awesome!. I had a bit of a play with a couple of images I shot on the Rollei a couple of weeks ago. Lets just say I’m not a subtle kinda guy 🙂

Same Corner Different Day
It seems I have been hanging out at this corner quite a lot lately

Rainy Day
A couple of rainy day street portraits on the corner of Manners Street and Victoria Street.
I like going out on rainy days, people seem more surprised that you are taking their photo and the light is usually much less harsh than when it is sunny. I usually find the end of a covered section of pavement and take photos of people walking in the rain.

Baby Factory Delivery Door
Um so this is where they deliver the babies?

Somes Island Gull and Lighthouse
A shot from my trip to Somes/Matiu Island last week.
At first glance nothing special until you realize that this is a fixed lens camera with a focal length of a 50mm on 35mm film. I think the focus put the gull at around 4 feet from where I was standing which is nearly as close as the Rollei will focus. The Gulls were nesting with offspring and were pretty territorial… more on that in another post…

Jandal and Punk
On the corner of Manners Street and Victoria Street. I love when you get a prop that people think you are shooting like the Jandal (Shoe) in the bottom left hand corner.

Bike Track Jump Packing Down
The bike track across the road is still under construction and it seems that they are having problems packing down the bigger jumps.
Problem solved, just drive your car back and forth up and down them… This tactic seems to be working pretty well.
I am hanging out for them to be finished to go shoot some extreme air time… Rollei might have to give way to 7 frames a second F5 and 35mm Film 🙂

Spray Artist on Cuba Street
This is where the low angle of the Rollei really comes into its own.

Running Girl
On Cuba Street in the middle of a heavy downpour.
I saw her running across the mall from the money machine and totally thought I had fired the shot too early (possibly a little bit early) and missed her altogether. Film is great for surprises.

Somes/ Matiu Island Lookout
As a family we went to Somes/ Matiu island in the Wellington harbour. The island has been used for many things from quarantine of both people and animals to internment for foreign nationals at time of war… It has a lighthouse which was built-in 1900 to replace the lighthouse built-in 1866 (images to come) and the remains of an anti-aircraft battery not to mention its a pest free zone so there are no rats or mice or other nasties so it is a safe haven for many of New Zealand’s endangered wildlife.
