Always Take Your Piano With You…

Just missed the shot of the guy riding and playing the piano, he just hopped off to help get it up a steep patch and then of course this was the last shot on the roll of film πŸ™‚

Fatherhood Friday 20: Amanda and Sam Go South

This week Amanda and Sam spent most of the week in Dunedin visiting Amanda’s Nanna who was in hospital.

All I can say is WOW! how easy is it to look after one kid not two πŸ™‚ Me and Emily ended up going to the beach and having a picnic on Wednesday and then going swimming at the pool after Playcentre on thursday.

It might have also helped that Krispin (a friend currently living in Aus) came to visit (Amanda flew out in the morning on Tuesday and Kris flew in in the afternoon) and Emily really enjoyed playing with him.

All in all it has been a pretty cruisy week πŸ™‚

Sam has now advanced from walking to running and apparently had a great time with her cousins in Dunedin

Emily had a pretty good week at home probably feeling like an only child again with all the attention she got πŸ™‚

Wheres the Fire?

Still coming to grips with the handling of the Rollieflex so forgive me if the images aren’t quite as good as they could be πŸ™‚

More NDX Goodness

As promised here goes some more NDX shots.

This filter gives a colour cast if you havent noticed and I find some of these shots hard on my eyes but they definitely have more of a post apocalyptic feel to them. The other reason I usually convert them is in the upper left hand corner and is more apparent when there is just sky. My Nikon D70s gives me a nice pink cloud effect which is really annoying on really long exposures and is apparently caused by the contacts with the autofocus system heating up, you don’t get it with manual focus lenses (all mine are auto focus so havent tested this out to see if it is true or not)

I Dont Think You Think That I am Taking a Photo of the Same Thing

This is a case of people thinking I am taking an image of one thing when really I am taking a picture of them.

Its kinda like camouflage but not really.

But that being said I was still taking an image of the broken post that someone must have backed into which has now been repaired but is about to be dug up due to massive roading change (all said really really fast and in one breath)

New Oakleys

I managed to lose my Sunglasses a number of weeks ago and since they were worth a bit (left over from when I had money and no kids) decided to claim them on insurance.

Yay they finally came… Good old Oakley X-Metal Juliets.

Thought Id better do a pic before they got all scratchafied.

FatherHood Friday 19: More Conversations With Em

Yet another week draws to an end. We have had a pretty good week with everybody being well for a change (although Amanda seems to be coming down with a cold again)

Samantha is up and walking around now and seeming to be a lot less frustrated as she chases Emily and the cat Luc (next door neighbours cat who comes to hang out most days) around the house. Teething has also taken a bit of a break this week πŸ™‚

Took the extra wheel of Emily’s running bike and took her to the bike track across the road (still not finished). After a few near crashes she got the hang of it pretty quickly and was racing round.

Conversation with Emily:

“Dad…we had a good day today riding my bike at the bike track and then at the beach didn’t we?”

“We sure did Em”

“Mum didn’t have as much fun as we did, did she?”

“Probably not”

“All she had was “Crap! Crap! Crap!” Cause she forgot her cellphone charger didn’t she”

“<Speechless>”

First Roll of 120 Through Rolleiflex

Here goes a few images from the first roll of 120 film I put through the Rolleiflex. These are all straight off the film with no corrections and using the camera meter.

All I can say is WOW…Even with a couple of Β good-sized cracks round the edge of the lens this camera is giving a sharp image and the meter is spot on πŸ™‚

You can see the extent of the lens damage in the top corners of this image as a darkening of the sky but all in all not too bad and could be post produced out with a bit of vignette.

A little bit of flare here as well but this was across the sun so was kinda pushing it to see what it would do…

I likee πŸ™‚

Not the best photo but hey it’s not everyday you see a couple of stormtroopers walking down the street.

I almost got them front on but need more practice with focus and reverse panning techniques…

I think this might replace the F5 for a little while as camera of choice for street shooting… Well we’ll see πŸ™‚

NDX Filter Shots

All these images were taken with a Cokin NDX filter which reduces light by a massive 13 stops, ie you can’t see anything through it.

They are all around 10 minute exposures in the middle of the day with lots of people around but because of the long exposure they seem mostly deserted.

I converted them to black and white because unfortunately the filter has a colour shift which is near impossible to correct.

I like they way they feel…kinda deserted and slightly disturbing.

Not entirely happy with the result and will go back and do again possibly when it is more overcast so the shadows aren’t as problematic.

Ferry Sunset

Sunset taken from the Interisland Ferry leaving Picton a couple of years ago.

I think there might have been fires in Australia which accounts for the intense colour of the sky. (No modification in Photoshop)

Sorry this is a quick stock one while the excitement builds for the Rolleiflex I get back tomorrow!
