Collaboration
Collaboration with Dining With Gunz
Amusing because both of us were thinking of doing this but neither of us wanted to ask the other.
Hopefully there will be more collaboratons in the future.
Death of a Tree
Sequence of a pine tree being felled.
Amusing things to note: Shot on Ilford Pan F+ 50 ISO film so had to shoot at f2.8 so not to get motion blur and had 9 month old Samantha in the backpack trying desparatley to grab the camera strap.
More tree related shots coming.
Fatherhood Friday 2
Just finished developing these last night (yay black and white film)
All I can say is “when the heck did you grow up so much?!
This picture really sums up Samantha in my opinion “its all about me!” It is possible at 9 months that she has a diabolical plan to rule the world.
This is a picture of Emily posing, not quite sure what she’s being… I only put it in because one of this weeks big things was watching them cut down the trees that she is standing in front of…Those pics with action sequences of trees being felled coming soon 🙂
A couple of macro shots (aka mushroom hunting)
Underside of a dead rose
I have always enjoyed playing round with macro lenses (in this case extension tubes) and find that you usually dont get interesting images unless you spend a bit of time looking for different angles. Both these images were shot underneath so you dont get the cliche’d looking straight down on the rose (yawn) shot.
Balance by Torchlight
Nikon F5, Ilford Delta 3200 film, f1.8 30 secs with fill light from torch
Pre WWII gun emplacement… Abandoned by military, Adopted by graffiti artists.
Part of a series I am currently working on about abandoned gun emplacements around Wellington.
Snail on a Wire
As the title suggests it a snail on a power line… Not sure where it was going or even where it had come from… All I know is it had a long way to go.
Macro Stitch Image “Back of a Gargoyle”
Nikon D70s ISO 200 50mm f1.8 with PK13 extension tube f8 1/125sec with 1 studio light
This image is actually made up of 9 images stitched togeather in Photoshop
The overall dimensions are something like 100cm x 25cm at 300 dpi
This was an experiment to see if I could combine macro photography and stitching to make a macro panoramic image. This was done by moving the camera along a macro rail rather than rotating it like when you make a landscape pano… I am really tempted to make a turntable of some sort to put an object on and then make a 360 degree stitched image of it…
As a test I thought this worked pretty well.
Same shot but two different ways
Nikon F5 with 50mm f1.8 lens
Ilford Pan F 50 Film
ND8 filter and ND4 Grad
f22 at 2 seconds
Ilford Pan F 50 film
f2.8 at 1/5000 second
Last week I was testing out an expired bulk roll of film for the first time and feeling quite sleep deprived couldnt face taking it into my usual urban jungle setting so went to the beach instead. It was reasonably overcast but I was impressed how the film handled and the tonal range that I got out of it. Considering that it expired in 2007 it still seems to be working well.
I like how even though the 2 photos have almost the exact same composition the feeling that they create is vastly different
