The Shire Of Darton
Heading into town last Sunday I noticed some heavily armoured people with swords at the park across the road from where I live… I quickly pulled into the car park and went over and asked if it was OK to take some shots… They kindly obliged and went through a couple of their practice routines 🙂
They are part of The Shire of Darton which is the Wellington, New Zealand branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), a world-wide society that recreates the better parts of life in pre-17th Century Europe.

Road Cones
I drove past this on my way into town for my usual Saturday shooting session, had to pull over and go back. Unfortunately it was hard to get an angle and I ended up nearly getting run over several times trying to get a shot…

Happy Girls
Took this last week. Totally didnt realise they were looking at me until I develop and scanned it… So much for being low profile 🙂

Bowlarama Wellington 2012
I ended up going to the Wellington Bowlarama competition in the weekend and was seriously blown away by the level of skating. A friend of mine challenged me to get a shot of someone getting air out of the bowl using Rollei (Bowlarama-10 is definitely my favourite) so I went and stood up against the fence and watched for most of the day.
Since Rollei doesn’t have any kind of motor-wind you pretty much only get one shot so it was a case of pre focusing on one spot and then waiting for something to happen in that spot. After a while it got a bit easier to predict where certain skaters did their tricks, helped quite a bit by watching where the pro photographers went and apart from people standing directly in front of me from time to time it was cool.
The nice thing was that in between heats one of the pro photographers came over and had a chat about his Rollei that he had just had serviced and was saying about how good it was for street photography 🙂

Trials Styles
Yesterday I went to the Bowlarama skate competition (big post coming tomorrow if I get all the images processed) and about half way through I remembered that I had parked my car on a 2 hour park and that was something like 3 hours ago. Luckily no ticket when I got back to it and snapped this guy doing trials stuff on his bike on the way back…
I ended up shooting all the film I had with me at the comp long before it ended 🙂

Adventures In Assisting
A couple of weeks ago (it always seems to take a couple of weeks) I did another assisting job with Bev Short for her new project. I didn’t get too much of a chance to take photos on this one as we were a bit rushed due to the fact that even though it is the middle of summer it was stupid cold and then one of the lights wouldn’t communicate so I ended up hand holding a speedlite as a rim light.
Matt Middleton the SFX makeup artist did a great job of turning a mask into a head, dubbed “Bob”,as well as doing all of Steve Francis makeup
The most amusing part was when we were just about to leave, a car pulled up and three guys got out and were a bit shocked by Steves appearance since he was still fully made up and asked him if he was alright… Wish I had got some shots of that 🙂
All in all another fun shoot and I think the final image turned out pretty damn good 🙂
