Sitting In Civic Square
School holidays are upon me again… It’s a time where my wanderings are a bit curtailed having to look after two small people not just one… So its back to the archives for a week or so until I can get out shooting again…
Here’s one from summer in Civic Square.

A Fist Full Of Half Frame
Some half frame panos from a trip to Titahi Bay a couple of months back.

Coffee Vs Beer
This is from the other weekend where rain interrupted a street shoot with me and Fergus (Cunningvision).
The first shot is sitting outside the St James Theater on Courtenay Place drinking coffee with Rollei on the table pre-focused and the second is on Cuba Street outside J J Murphy’s drinking beer with the same setup although I did have to get Fergus to lean out of the shot while I took it and it was a bit under exposed…

Cops With Spray Cans? WTF?
I spotted this in Leftbank Mall earlier in the week… Apparently the police are looking for new ways to recruit people.
Um isn’t this kind of illegal? Maybe they got permission?
To me this just evokes images of a couple of uniformed cops with spray cans and stencils looking shifty… possibly one on lookout while the other puts up the stencil… both jumping at the sound of any passerby…
The old guy looking in the window was just a bonus…

Shooting The Shooters
Shot from last weekend when Fergus aka Cunningvision and I went out for a street shoot, which 10 minutes into it the weather packed up and rained for the next hour or so…
This didn’t mean that we packed it in just that time was also spent at Galleries, drinking coffee and later on drinking beer 🙂 I got some shots while drinking both coffee and beer so a productive use of time all round.

Street Art: Girl With Giant Moths
Saw this awesome piece of street art on Vivian Street and had to take a shot. Unfortunately it was on the other side of a chain link fence so didn’t quite get the angle I wanted.

Second Hand Book Sale
Last weekend as I was walking along the waterfront I noticed that the rowing club was having a book sale and it started in a couple of minutes… Now I love books so I thought this would be a good opportunity to see if they had anything I wanted as well as get some shots of people looking at books.
If you have ever been to a second-hand book sale right as it starts you know what a chaotic place it is as everyone tries to scan through the books before anyone else to get the best books. This pretty much meant that after the first minute of looking for books I was pretty much invisible when I started taking images as everyone there was focused on the books… Invisible is Awesome!
It was upstairs and the sun was still pretty low in the sky so it made for great lighting.
I didn’t end up getting any books but the images were great 🙂

Sitting
Random shot while sitting on Courtenay Place… This is a good example of camping to get images 🙂

Boat Fight
These yachts were following/dueling right next to the wharf a couple of weekends ago… I have to say that I had no idea that boats this size were so maneuverable as these guys were ripping it up something fierce!
Rollei doesn’t have a tele lens and this image isn’t cropped so they were pretty close!

Dan And 4×5
I found this shot of Dan using my 4×5 camera at Point Halswell while I was looking for images of Fort Balance
Nikon F5… Cant remember what else sorry it was a while ago…
Fort Balance Retrospective
On the front of Fridays Dominion Post there was an article about the military wanting to sell off the land that a number of the historic fortresses are on. A few years ago I decided to go and investigate all of the old forts and battlements around Wellington and found this one while looking for something else… I think these were taken around 2008… I have kept meaning to try and get actual permission to go back since this one and a couple of others are on Military land but have never got round to it… Possibly because I have no idea where to ask 🙂
Here are some shots of Fort Balance which was built in the 1880s. There is a good article HERE which details most of the history of the fort.
