Sleeper In The Rain

Not a particularly good sleeper but I couldn’t get a better angle since it looked like he had a friend nearby who wasn’t asleep.

It pretty much sums up things at the moment with it raining the last 3 Saturdays when I usually get these shots.

More Alley… Before And After.

I was cleaning out some stuff on my computer last night when I came across the top image of the Alley from last year. It was almost from the exact same viewpoint as one of the shots from the post on Wednesday so here they go side by side (or one above the other).

Alley Revisited

I was walking past “The Alley” the other week and I noticed that the gate was open… Sweet… So here goes some shots from inside my favorite Ally after it has been painted entirely white and boring… with a few embellishments and on the bonus side it didn’t smell of urine like it used to 🙂

Me Again And Yoga Related Injuries

Yup it’s another self-portrait… I may have to call this series something like “Things I do when its raining and I cant get the shots I normally take…” although that does sound a bit long-winded.

Somehow last week I managed to injure a rib whilst doing yoga (yes I know that sounds pretty dumb and I’m sure my friend Adam would say “YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG!) and if you have ever had a rib injury you will know that it hurts worse once it starts healing than when you did it in the first place. That pretty much hit yesterday and I didn’t quite know how bad it was until I made the mistake of going out shooting while carrying Sam in the backpack. About half way along things started getting real painful and the rest of the walk turned into a slow haze of pain… Hopefully this wont put me out of action for too long.

I still have a backlog of images to post so it shouldn’t change too much here… I think its time to start planning a darkroom session anyway and this might give me time to sort out what to print and put together a series to take to some galleries…

Happy 2nd Birthday Samantha

Today Samantha turns 2. Here are some shots from this year as we have been out and about.

I sometimes wonder what my kids will think when they are older and all of the photos of them are shot on cameras from the 50s and 60s and are predominantly black and white, I hope they like them 🙂

Giant Bubbles

It was finally a nice day on Thursday so me and Sam went for a wander along the waterfront shooting after not being out for a couple of weeks. As we were walking past the rowing club we both noticed some rather large bubbles out across the inlet. Upon further investigation we came across the bubble maker who was testing out his bubble mixture. This is one of the few times I wished I was shooting colour…

I don’t think I have ever seen bubbles bouncing off the surface of the water before and Sam was more than happy to stay and watch where as she usually gets bored easily in the backpack if we stop for too long.

Self Portrait Mode

Over the last couple of weeks it has been raining pretty consistently in Wellington which makes for difficult shooting conditions with the Rollei. Obviously I can’t take it in the rain and shop awnings become dark enough to make for slow shutter speeds and focusing difficulties, not to forget that people tend to congregate less when it is raining so there is less opportunity to capture interaction between them.

At times like this it seems like I go into “Self Portrait” mode and start looking round for things that reflect…

The Final Days Of Real Groovy Wellington

Last week Real Groovy record store in Wellington closed its doors for the last time. Its had a bit of an up and down roller coaster ride financially over the last few years but the iconic store has always seemed to come back… I guess not this time 😦

I took these shots the week before it closed for good where they were selling everything off cheap.

You will be missed…

Solace In The Wind

I really like this statue on Wellingtons waterfront but I can never get it looking the way I want it to… This one was close…

Girl In Window

As I was walking past this window I noticed the girl inside doing alterations to a pair of jeans. She looked so happy I just had to take a shot… A polarizing filter would have been handy to take some of the reflection off the window but since I dont have one for Rollei it wasnt an issue.

She spotted me just after I took the photo and gave me a wave 🙂
