Demi Half Frame Print

Finally got round to printing a shot from my old Canon Demi S (deceased)

With the 6×6 enlarger mask I made I can only print 3 frames at a time so I might have to experiment with a slightly larger mask and hope the enlarger handles it. Hopefully I can get up to 5 frames printed…

A Bit Of Camera Repair

I finally got around to pulling apart my broken Canon Demi S half frame camera to see if I could get it back up and running. I found a repair manual online for a slightly different model of camera and startedΒ  dismantling. There was a major difference unfortunatley in how the front cover came off which would have saved a lot of time and trouble but you live and learn.

I got it all back together (with no extra bits left out) with the initial problem fixed but another problem arose which meant I needed to pull it al apart again… Lets just say its a work in progress πŸ™‚

Luckily while I was doing this I was also bidding on another one online πŸ™‚

Things To Do While Your Rolleiflex Is Away Being Repaired #5

Catch Up On Things You Meant To Do Last Year.

This was a series I did last year. Every time Samantha went to sleep in the car I took a photo of her with my Canon half frame camera. I always meant to put them together and this is a bit rough but there you have it… They were taken over a 6 month period.

I am starting to get Rollei withdrawl and walking round with my F5 just isn’t the same 😦

Half Frame Fair

I havent put up a half frame shot for a while so here is one from the Petone Fair a couple of months back… My half frame camera currently has a rattle like a screw loose inside somewhere so I will have to pull it apart (again) before it goes shooting 😦

Half Frame Urbex

A couple of half frame panos… The first one is the abandoned Central Institute of Technology and the second one is an abandoned company that used toΒ  go by the name Universal Trading Company which reminded me of Universal Exports from James Bond πŸ™‚

I love how seamless this shot is even though the two girls are in it twice… Look at it big πŸ™‚

Motorway Half Frame Pano

I haven’t done one of these for a while…

This one was taken from Fort Buckley on the night before we did the painting with light.

Half Frame Architecture. Part 1

Some half frame shots from a couple of weekends ago. It definitely takes a while to get through 72 frames on a half frame camera, even when shooting a fair few multi panos like these.

Sequence Of Sam

Straight out of the camera and scanned as one negative… I really like the flow of this image… Half Frame is cool πŸ™‚

A couple more shots of the Tripod with its legwarmers. I thought the Pom Poms were a nice touch πŸ™‚

This time in colour from my half frame… Not sure what is up with the crazy yellow shift in the first one. It probably means the film was somewhat expired πŸ™‚

Happy 2nd Birthday Samantha

Today Samantha turns 2. Here are some shots from this year as we have been out and about.

I sometimes wonder what my kids will think when they are older and all of the photos of them are shot on cameras from the 50s and 60s and are predominantly black and white, I hope they like them πŸ™‚

Half Frame Experimentation

Still trying to get my head into altering images within the Canon Demi S half frame camera.

Here go a couple of attempts. I have to remember to take more notice of leading/following edges in order to line stuff up. Of course I could do this post production but that would be cheating and spoil all the fun.

All the half frame images I am taking are scanned as one piece so its pretty much how it looks on the negatives.

More Cemetery Half Frame

Some more shots from the Demi Half Frame.

Test Shots From The Demi

After receiving my new Canon Demi S from Trademe (NZ equivalent of Ebay) on Wednesday with the shutter locked I was pretty disappointed. However aΒ  quick Google search pointed out that it was a common problem with this camera if it hadn’t been used in a while and the fix was pretty easy.

So with a bit of trepidation I started taking the front lens assembly off in order to get to the shutter…

After removing the front lens cover and lens as well as the shutter speed ring I was at the shutter. Some lighter fluid on the end of a cottonbud and Viola! I now had a working Demi.

It does have a bit of fungus in the lens and the light seals will need to be replaced but for $30NZ its a pretty sweet half frame camera with a 30mm f1.7 lens which can be used fully manually unlike the Demi or the Demi colour, the selenium meter works and seems very accurate…Sweet!

So in went the first roll of film to see if it actually worked… After dropping Emily off at school me and Samantha were planning to go for a street shoot in town but got stuck in a traffic jam on the motorway afterΒ  a crash for about an hour and Sam fell asleep so that pretty much ended the plan for street shooting… I did take some in the car and the last shot of the series you can see the wreck.

So when we finally got home and Sam woke up we went to the cemetery for a walk and to take some images. Again these were snapped off pretty quickly due to the short attention span of an almost 2-year-old πŸ™‚

All in all I have to say I’m pretty stoked with the results as everything seems to be working very well πŸ™‚ Look out for a whole heap more from this camera

A Couple of Cemetery Half Frames

A couple more Half Frame panos, this time of a couple of different cemeteries.

The top image is from the cemetery overlooking the Terrace in Wellington and the other is at Karori Cemetery also in Wellington.

I Like how the top images have been run together on this one… It definitely adds a bit of atmosphere to the image.

Fatherhood Friday 30: Twas The Night Before Christmas… Half Frame Styles

Well kinda the day before christmas and in some parts of the world when I publish this, the day before the night before christmas… Wow that was pretty confusing…

As you can probably guess the girls are all pretty excited and riled up (all 3 of them, big one included).

One last shopping foray to complete for the girls to get each other a present and then its time to kick back and relax… At least until Boxing day when I’m working again.

A Couple of Half Frame Sequences

Another couple of sequence shots from the loaner Canon Demi Half Frame Camera.

They are both off the first roll I put through it where I stuffed up which way to shoot and had to turn the images in Photoshop…Hence the weird light leaks don’t match up…

I think the person in the first one makes the shot… but that’s just me πŸ™‚

Half Frame Pano

I had a half frame lunch walk around yesterday with a borrowed Canon Demi, Cheers Fergus. Something like 48 shots in under 10 Minutes!

Yes I put my hand over the lens a couple of shots and Yes I had to turn them all in Photoshop cause I took ion the wrong order but apart from that it is a pretty fun camera to shoot with.

Cheers to Nige for inspiring me with his Super Rad images!
