Government House Foray
Last weekend Government House had its first open day in about the last 4 years. They have just completed a multi multi million dollar refurbishment and I guess were trying to justify it to the public who paid for it.
When we got there the queue to get into the house was about two and a half hours long and having both kids with us there was no way that we were going to be able to wait that long so we joined the rest of the non queue waiters and went around the outside of the house and looked in. The amusing thing was that there were people working at their computers while a multitude of public looked in the windows at them… Very zooish 🙂

Uncomfortable Sleeper
Last weekend I went out early to find sleepers only to find that the council was out in force mowing and cleaning everything in sight. However it did mean that this guy probably moved away from where he usually crashed and this was much more interesting.
In other events I have officially become a sleeper “Snob” walking past one in the weekend because they weren’t interesting enough… Not sure if this is a good thing.

Test Shots From The Demi
After receiving my new Canon Demi S from Trademe (NZ equivalent of Ebay) on Wednesday with the shutter locked I was pretty disappointed. However a quick Google search pointed out that it was a common problem with this camera if it hadn’t been used in a while and the fix was pretty easy.
So with a bit of trepidation I started taking the front lens assembly off in order to get to the shutter…
After removing the front lens cover and lens as well as the shutter speed ring I was at the shutter. Some lighter fluid on the end of a cottonbud and Viola! I now had a working Demi.
It does have a bit of fungus in the lens and the light seals will need to be replaced but for $30NZ its a pretty sweet half frame camera with a 30mm f1.7 lens which can be used fully manually unlike the Demi or the Demi colour, the selenium meter works and seems very accurate…Sweet!
So in went the first roll of film to see if it actually worked… After dropping Emily off at school me and Samantha were planning to go for a street shoot in town but got stuck in a traffic jam on the motorway after a crash for about an hour and Sam fell asleep so that pretty much ended the plan for street shooting… I did take some in the car and the last shot of the series you can see the wreck.
So when we finally got home and Sam woke up we went to the cemetery for a walk and to take some images. Again these were snapped off pretty quickly due to the short attention span of an almost 2-year-old 🙂
All in all I have to say I’m pretty stoked with the results as everything seems to be working very well 🙂 Look out for a whole heap more from this camera

Shooting Some Shooters
When you go to an Event that is like the Dragon Boat Festival a couple of weeks ago with a Rolleiflex a lot of the time it isn’t worth photographing the actual event due to the Rollei not having much in the way of a telephoto ability… But that doesn’t mean you don’t get to take images or have fun 🙂

The Armageddon/Comicon event was on in the weekend, I spotted this at the queue to get in. Is it ethical for collectors for (I am assuming) the Christchurch earthquake to have guns? Kinda takes it to the next level really. I did also miss a shot of Darth Vader also collecting…

Wellington Triathlon
Triathlon in Wellington on the 12th of March… Amusingly this was being run in the harbor in the midst of a tsunami alert throughout the Pacific. Although the risk was relatively low and the event would be finished before the tsunami would have hit it still made me smile 🙂 especially when I asked one of the lifeguards about it and got back the typical kiwi reply of “she’ll be right”
It would have been nice once again to have my 80-200 f2.8 but thems the breaks since I wasnt really expecting to shoot at a triathlon…

Rainy Day
This was shot on a roll of Delta 3200 ISO Film pulled to 800 ISO. I ran out of film on a previous day (which was bright and sunny) and had to down rate the ISO of my remaining film, of course the next day I was out it was really dark and I could have used the extra couple of stops to freeze this shot… Oh well 🙂

Food Vendor
A food vendor at a cultural festive held in Civic Square in Wellington… I guess his day wasn’t going so well… It probably didn’t help that it poured down with rain about 30 mins later.
I like how sometimes if you wait long enough it all come together 🙂

Hold Up Guy
The radio network covering the dragon boat races had up a large inflatable arch for people to walk under on their way to the event… Unfortunately not long after they put it up it got windy and had to be taken down… this was just after it got windy and just before they took it down.
