I guess the taller you are the further you have to look to change music…

Bubbles On The Waterfront
OK book is done (link at top of sidebar if you want to look at it or even buy it) so it is time to get back to putting up images again 🙂 .
The weather is starting to head back to sunny even if there is still a bit of a chill in the air. These two girls were blowing bubbles at the back of Te Papa one evening as I was walking past. The last shot is an enlargement so you can see the bubbles 🙂

Nearly Done
Book is nearly done ( I am aiming to get it in by the 31st) so hopefully things should be back to normal after that…
Spotted this guy at the opening ceremony for the rugby statue just off Civic Square… Lets just say that I’m pretty sure that it wasn’t orange fizzy drink in the bottle.

Blog Neglect And Book Project
OK I don’t know about neglect but I don’t seem to be quite as regular as the last year and a half or so…
I have, however, been concentrating on producing a small self published book using Blurb Books… With the American dollar being so low against the New Zealand dollar (something like $1 NZ equals 87c US) it means that a & inch x 7 inch softcover book with up to 40 pages is only something like $20 NZ and that’s with a paper upgrade.
This is going to be a bit of a test to see how it looks and I will probably get a softcover and a hardcover to see what they are like…
The images below are a couple of pages… They are all double page spreads and the red dotted lines are where they will be cut so that there will be no grey border and the right hand image will bleed right to the edge…
I still don’t have a title… I kind of wanted something that incorporated the word “Halide” (not necessarily Dark Halide) but could also mention all the image being taken in Wellington and on a Rolleiflex and should also contain something about Street Photography… Arrrrrrrggggg….. That makes my head hurt just thinking about it…
Any Suggestions?
One Of “Those” Days And A Protest
It turned out to be one of “Those” days.
As I was wandering to Photo Warehouse to get some more film I came across this protest against Burma’s treatment of the Kachin and other minorities, not in itself a bad thing, however I only had 3 shots left.
After finishing these 3 shots I continued on, missing at least 1 more shot since I didn’t have any film, and bought another couple of rolls.
While loading the first roll I managed to reload the roll which I had just taken out, which jammed in the camera and had to be taken out in a dark-box.
Later in the day while I was developing that roll I noticed that it had suffered a couple of creases from being reloaded which I have very badly burned in using Photoshop.
And then to top it all off the image that I was really looking forward to of the little girl sitting on the steps… Yup she blinked 🙂

Shooting The Shooters Again
Protest about Burma’s human rights record in the background. Should have shot it a bit more wide open but you can already start to see the lens aberrations on the lower right hand side.

Storm and Expired Pan F+
These are some shot taken on the same day as the other storm shots I posted.
These one were taken on my Nikon F5 with a Tokina 19-35mm lens and some Ilford Pan F+ 50 ISO film which expired in 2006 and a red filter.
There was some seriously funky things happening with the film including mold on a couple of shots so most of these under went a fair bit of Photoshop retouching.
I really like how old they feel… I still have about 10 metres left on a bulk roll so might have to try this again next storm 🙂
While I was out shooting I had a woman come up to me aghast that I was taking photos in the middle of a full on storm to which I replied “but its a great day for photography” I think the images speak for themselves… I really need to look into getting a Nikonus 5 underwater camera for this sort of stuff though…

Half Frame Architecture. Part 1
Some half frame shots from a couple of weekends ago. It definitely takes a while to get through 72 frames on a half frame camera, even when shooting a fair few multi panos like these.

Wrights Hill Fortress WW2 Remains
Wrights hill Fortress is THE best preserved WW2 fortresses that I have been to. It is currently being restored by a small group of enthusiasts and is open on most public holidays. If you are in the area on a public holiday it is definitely worth going to see it.
I managed to get a bit of a look round without the crowds when one of the photographers, Bev, who I do some assisting for planned a photo shoot there so we went along to do a recci before the shoot and of course I took some test shots also 🙂
It was originally meant to have 3 guns but only 2 ever got built. The only time they were fired was when they were “proofed” and the force of the shock wave broke the windows of houses at the bottom of the hill.
Storm
So there is a bit of a winter storm happening over New Zealand at the moment so when the first snow flurries started to hit I decided it would be a good time to head to the south coast and get some images as the storm rolled up from the south island.
Its school holidays which meant that Amanda was home to look after the kids as I put on as many clothes as I could find and headed out.
The great thing about owning an aging digital SLR is that you don’t mind so much if it gets a bit wet so even though the spray off the waves was pretty bad I still got some shots. I also took my F5 which was pre loaded with some expired Ilford Pan F+ 50 ISO film so it will be interesting to see how they come out since I was getting up to about a 10 second exposure, hopefully I will develop that roll in the next day or two.

Fort Buckley WW2 Remains
Some shots of Fort Buckley. I stress these were just test/location shots as the day I went the light was super bright 🙂
Fort Buckley at the entrance to the Kaiwharawhara gorge housed a couple of guns for defense of the inner harbor and was originally built around 1885.
When I was there at the end of 2009 it looked like the area was getting an upgrade with a new walking track down to the gun pits.
